The teamspeak server was tied to our contract for the old game servers (which has now expired) so no TS for now.
I'll get another voice comms server but thought I'd lay the options out there (see poll) as to what type of server we get. thx Monkey -------------------- |

hmm
i've personally used ts2 and vent, but 've no experience with the other 2 at a glance mumble seems to be a cheaper option but i dont know if there is a serious drop in quality/bandwidth/overheads etc and i assume TS3 is a newer version so it may be costlier and tbh TS2 seems to do a excellent bug free job (coupled with TSoverlay [which rocks btw]) i dunno about other users but i use vent as well, but i find it's a bit buggy sometimes and the direct input sometimes goes missing forcing you to bind a extra button to reset the directinput (in my experience anyway :/) gonna rush off DL mumble and ts3 and see if i can connect to some public servers and see if they are better and maybey see if their users will provide some feedback ^^ *fin this post later* *mumble* @ wiki Mumble is a free, open-source, cross-platform voice over IP application. Its primary users are gamers, and it is similar to programs such as TeamSpeak and Ventrilo. It uses a client-server architecture where users who want to talk connect to the same server.[1] Mumble's stated design goal is not to create the most elite gaming utility but to create the most social one. The goal is to recreate the feel and social interaction of a LAN party. As such, Mumble has a very simple administrative interface and most of the engineering effort is put into sound quality and low latency. As of version 1.1, all communication is encrypted to ensure user privacy.[2] As of version 1.1.7 Mumble has native support for Logitech G15 keyboard LCD display. ***random host showing price comparison , mumble looks cheaper here*** looks like mumble uses the speex codec same as TS2 so i guess quality must be at least on par but on another note if TS3 is coming out then does that mean that all the TS2 providers will be upgrading ? so this could be the end of TS2? omg mumble client is 12meg O_O wtf is in it ????? omg it picks up everthing !!! supa sensitive and clear AND positional audio ! mumble seems very well programmed the infterace wizard for a new user is very friendly and intuitive (i sound like a mumble salesman ^^) and setting up for PTT and VA is a breeze, i recommend everyone at least downloading mumble and having a play around oh yh its 12meg as both the client and server are included in the same package -------------------- WIP...

I have no idea of the pros and cons of each choice, I'd say teamspeak for ease of use since the bf2 days and I have it installed, but if we have to change then it wont bother me.

Have always used vent or ts and have always preferred vent. If there was an option for not having 1, I'd probably have picked that seeing as I've never logged onto the ts server or been asked to. Probs for diff games than l4d/2

I have a mumble and ts3 server if anyone needs a voice server for any reason , but you can happily use either needed or if you want to test them out , both are 14 slots

btw i recommend trying the new ts3, its a lot clearer than ts2... am going to tryout mumble today. Never been a fan of vent although it was always clearer than ts2, ts2 was always more common (was generally easier telling people to drop by a TS than by a vent)

if I remember correctly to prevent the possibility of me interfering with more important votes (e.g. member kicking etc) I've multihashed the polls table in a way that I could interfere with the results, but it'd take me about a week of solid work to do so (which is more work than I'd spend on any vote )
As such current votes can't be changed but am hoping one of the many forum slackers might get around to voting or someone that's been using TS recently (like K) might want to swing it one way or another -------------------- |

IF anyone needs to use a voice server in the meantime please feel free to use either of mine ( pm me and ill send ya the details )
have Ts3 and Mumble servers ( the Ts3 will only be up for a couple of weeks as it is a free beta test from my server providers for my UT3 server so it would be nice if someone used it , the mumble server is tied to the UT3 server and will be up for a few more months ) |

i'm easy either way, i voted Ts2 because i like it but i also use vent and i'll bet TS3 will just be TS2 with bells on.
i've had a look at mumble too and if we had that i'd not be whining either why not go for the cheapest option for a say months trial, and if it works out i.e. no-one complains then go with that? -------------------- WIP...

TS3 is a bit more than bells, specifically it has much better clearer sounds.. which was always one of the big flaws of TS2
Mumble is also very good both on the sound and software front, it's only drawback is it's not widely used e.g. if you say to someone drop by our mumble it's more likely they'll think you're some sort of mad person Price-wise they're roughly the same :s -------------------- |

does ts3 use more bandwidth for the clearer speaking? usually everything comes with a price, or is it newer is better in this case?
