I've realized that L4D just has a hard time doing what it was intended to do. Too many people complain of its randomness, though that was what it was setting out to be in the first place. It wasn't trying to be a game for clan matches, yet the clan types are making too much noise and unfortunately Valve has listened to much for my liking.
The maps are too linear, and everyone knows them too well now. The only time I have fun is when things happen that I don't expect, and with everyone running through the maps like they are a group of 4 SAS, it's getting pretty boring. I don't blame people for trying to be good at the game, but it's just taken a natural progression of becoming dull. Also, I don't think the game was made as well as I originally thought. It's still just way too damn scripted. It's too easy to take advantage of the scripted events once you've played through them 100 times. My entire hope of this game being good again rests on the SDK. The SDK will allow for new maps/mods and hopefully bring some randomness back into the game. Until then I'll be playing it very rarely |

dude i've been working till 3am on Vinny all this week, but I'm done today. I'm going to go home and sleep tonight, but I have this weekend off. I'll definitely be playing this weekend. btw are you operating 64 bit os? did I ask you that already? if yes, there is a bf2.exe replacement file I can give you to stop some crashing that happens. (PR is WAY more of a memory hog then bf2 was)

Im on 32bit. I think its Vista thats the problem. Ill try reinstalling it in xp and see if that fixes it.
Had a superb match with lots of SM folks last night. Fun Fun Fun. I know what you mean about the random stuff in L4D. It was much more fun when you had no idea where the tank was coming from. Now its a case of the second team knowing exactly when it will spawn which totally screws the balancing. DLC is out soon. It will be interesting to see what they have done with the 2 extra campaigns. And the SDK will be superb. Already seem the Dawn of the Dead Campaign in progress. Looks promising. -------------------- |

Thats why I prefer being Survivor, you still have a little bit of randmoness.
I'm running 32 bit myself so have no problems, already had a test run of their training servers but I got bored to quickly with no one else around. -------------------- There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't |

hypo, it's not even a case of just the tank. I think the tank problem just made it worse. The problem was already there, people have learned the maps too well, and now everyone plays them the same way and its just boring.
After the first day I got L4D, the most excitement I had playing the game was when we all played Death Toll on Vs. for the first time. Noone really knew the map, and because of that everyone was having such a great time. Yet there are people out there who constantly complain that its never a fair match because of randomness. I think those guys either never figured out what made the game good, or have forgotten. It's not a good enough FPS to have a lot of replay value, if you take out the randomness. Also Hypo, that 32 bit os question is only if you play Project Reality, and was directed at 6. Unless you are interested in playing some Project Reality with me and the boys |

6 just make sure you don't have your textures set to high. they just have some bugs with the new patch, and until they fix em they've said turning your textures to medium should sort it out. otherwise what happens is on certain maps you can get CTD's

Will try to remember to do that next time I'm on.
Totally agree with your Thesis on l4d above, always end up playing the same strategy in the same spot on the same level. This is the best game I can think of which is closest to L4D, learn it once and its the same thing over and over and over and over......... -------------------- There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't |

that looks cool, but I think one thing most mod/amateur type level designers forget, is it's the flow of the map that will decide if its good, not if it looks pretty
so many community maps to games, look cool, but really just aren't fun. all I'm saying is I'll be more excited when I get a hands on version |

what would be cool, is to start brainstorming for our map - if were still doing it.
itll take a while to plan, so why not start now? -------------------- |

I already have a rough plan like I've said.. I'm still up for it despite me talking negatively here about l4d. tbh my ramblings have made me realize we should really push more towards as much of a non-linear map as we can get a way with.
though as a second thought, i'm sure others have thought the same, and it might be a good idea to wait for the sdk to come out and check out some other maps that try to do that.. see where they succeed/fail i've got a rough idea in mind.. just dont have any spare time to do anything to show you guys.. been at work till 3am most days these past 2 weeks, and have 1 more to go. have this weekend off but prob not going to spend it doing the map.. in a week tho i'll have some more time |
