There was talk of entering some leagues for L4D, so we need to either commit to this or give up on the league idea.
I've created a TWL team for league matches
You can go and create a user account on
www.teamwarfare.com/(this account creation takes about 2 minutes of your precious time)
then join the =SM= team by going to:
http://www.teamwarfare.com/viewteam.asp?team=SneakyMonkeys.comand clicking join.
We'll need 4 good players and a few reserves for this. If more people join then we'll arrange teams afterwards.
Now... I don't particularily want to waste my time setting this up, so if you're interested then sign up if not then just say here.
The L4D cup is EU based, so most of the teams will be EU (in respect of pings)
The L4D matches for the cup appear to be 3 maps picked at random on vs with a straight knockout
The matches also appear to be played around 7pm GMT on Sundays.
SIGNUPS:

Hmm, might be able to do this. Depending on family duties. As long as you have a backup if I cant make it. You will need someone with limited skills alcohol abuse skills low mental capacity and attention to fill my shoes.
I suggest Magik 6

Well the idea is to get a t least more than 4 who can make it, so that if people can't attend there should be cover.
At the moment though interest in this isn't looking great

well i havent played with you for a long time, yet ive seen youve been playing a bunch of other games - same with fox.
im personally getting bored with same maps over and over, 6 only plays expert...
plus the fact weve been playing field recently kinda hints to the fact that l4d just isnt the replacement we hoped it would be.
Magik6
Mar 5 2009, 01:13 PM
I don't think it ever was a replacement, it was a substitute which has run its course, what I find really insulting is that I bought the field for about £12 and bought l4d for around £30, but the field gave me much more of a lengthy enjoyment period where as l4d just blows donkey dick too quickly.
Oh and I think you can take crapz and zol off your list, doubt we'll see either of them ever again

Personally I'm still playing L4D more than any other game. I suspect people are seeing me playing other games due to steam - prior to steam I was still playing many other games, but not usually online and informing people every time I played e.g. oblivion, portal, fallout3, gtaIV, saints row, mirrors edge, deadspace, mass effect, lotro - the list goes on
Although I've played a couple of games of bf2 recently, it has only reinforced my previous feelings that I 'm hating what bf2 has become:
full of cheats, less and less decent people, more whining and bitching, claymore & nade spam all played on insecure poorly configured servers adminned by retards.
The lack of l4d content is annoying and will hopefully be addressed. My only issue with the L4D style of play is that it basically requires you to invest an hour to play it - most FPS you can come and go without your absence harshly imbalancing the game
Magik5
Mar 5 2009, 01:49 PM
i certainly disagree with 6, l4d is still a great game and is still fun to play, but like you say, the lack of content is a major issue here - doing same maps over and over is a little lame.
i cant see myself playing bf2 like i used to, and agree the game has been destroyed by phail people playing phaily(?).
but to back up my original point, from what ive seen, the enthusiasm has gone from playing the game. its been quite a while since weve had a proper all friends 4v4 versus game at least...

Jesus are you lot coming down from something!! L4D is fun and when I have had games with you lot in them its more fun. Damn is everyone giving up on it? BF2 is the nuts and im glad I reinstalled it..but playing it again now is reminding me why i gave up in the first place. Cheating all over the shop and not much variety (plus the fact I cant stay connectted for 5 mins).
I do know what you mean by the fatigue of the familiar but man I still enjoy L4D. I mean how many of you played CS Dust over and over for years. I know I did.

I've realized that L4D just has a hard time doing what it was intended to do. Too many people complain of its randomness, though that was what it was setting out to be in the first place. It wasn't trying to be a game for clan matches, yet the clan types are making too much noise and unfortunately Valve has listened to much for my liking.
The maps are too linear, and everyone knows them too well now. The only time I have fun is when things happen that I don't expect, and with everyone running through the maps like they are a group of 4 SAS, it's getting pretty boring. I don't blame people for trying to be good at the game, but it's just taken a natural progression of becoming dull.
Also, I don't think the game was made as well as I originally thought. It's still just way too damn scripted. It's too easy to take advantage of the scripted events once you've played through them 100 times.
My entire hope of this game being good again rests on the SDK. The SDK will allow for new maps/mods and hopefully bring some randomness back into the game.
Until then I'll be playing it very rarely

dude i've been working till 3am on Vinny all this week, but I'm done today. I'm going to go home and sleep tonight, but I have this weekend off. I'll definitely be playing this weekend. btw are you operating 64 bit os? did I ask you that already? if yes, there is a bf2.exe replacement file I can give you to stop some crashing that happens. (PR is WAY more of a memory hog then bf2 was)

Im on 32bit. I think its Vista thats the problem. Ill try reinstalling it in xp and see if that fixes it.
Had a superb match with lots of SM folks last night. Fun Fun Fun.
I know what you mean about the random stuff in L4D. It was much more fun when you had no idea where the tank was coming from. Now its a case of the second team knowing exactly when it will spawn which totally screws the balancing.
DLC is out soon. It will be interesting to see what they have done with the 2 extra campaigns. And the SDK will be superb. Already seem the Dawn of the Dead Campaign in progress. Looks promising.

Mar 6 2009, 12:42 PM
Thats why I prefer being Survivor, you still have a little bit of randmoness.
I'm running 32 bit myself so have no problems, already had a test run of their training servers but I got bored to quickly with no one else around.
=R6= Raile
Mar 6 2009, 01:00 PM
hypo, it's not even a case of just the tank. I think the tank problem just made it worse. The problem was already there, people have learned the maps too well, and now everyone plays them the same way and its just boring.
After the first day I got L4D, the most excitement I had playing the game was when we all played Death Toll on Vs. for the first time. Noone really knew the map, and because of that everyone was having such a great time.
Yet there are people out there who constantly complain that its never a fair match because of randomness. I think those guys either never figured out what made the game good, or have forgotten. It's not a good enough FPS to have a lot of replay value, if you take out the randomness.
Also Hypo, that 32 bit os question is only if you play Project Reality, and was directed at 6. Unless you are interested in playing some Project Reality with me and the boys

Mar 6 2009, 01:10 PM
6 just make sure you don't have your textures set to high. they just have some bugs with the new patch, and until they fix em they've said turning your textures to medium should sort it out. otherwise what happens is on certain maps you can get CTD's
Magik6
Mar 6 2009, 01:28 PM
Will try to remember to do that next time I'm on.
Totally agree with your Thesis on l4d above, always end up playing the same strategy in the same spot on the same level.
This is the best game I can think of which is closest to L4D, learn it once and its the same thing over and over and over and over.........

that looks cool, but I think one thing most mod/amateur type level designers forget, is it's the flow of the map that will decide if its good, not if it looks pretty
so many community maps to games, look cool, but really just aren't fun.
all I'm saying is I'll be more excited when I get a hands on version

what would be cool, is to start brainstorming for our map - if were still doing it.
itll take a while to plan, so why not start now?
=R6= Raile
Mar 6 2009, 04:32 PM
I already have a rough plan like I've said.. I'm still up for it despite me talking negatively here about l4d. tbh my ramblings have made me realize we should really push more towards as much of a non-linear map as we can get a way with.
though as a second thought, i'm sure others have thought the same, and it might be a good idea to wait for the sdk to come out and check out some other maps that try to do that.. see where they succeed/fail
i've got a rough idea in mind.. just dont have any spare time to do anything to show you guys.. been at work till 3am most days these past 2 weeks, and have 1 more to go. have this weekend off but prob not going to spend it doing the map.. in a week tho i'll have some more time

Well since there aren't enough people wanting to compete in an L4D tournament, we'll cancel this off now.
People can always reconsider at a later point. Will close and unpin this topic now.
Thanks to those that replied, I'll be installing malware on the computers of those that didn't...
