Hi so i was just kicked from the SM chivalry server, saw on your guys rules that this is were i report admin abuse. I have been a longtime player in chivalry, ive played since the mod days, love the game and I like to play on you'r guys server from time to time, i have almost always had good experiences with the players as well as the SM admins. In fact i think you guys for the most part have very good admins. So out of respect for the people who play on the sever as well as the integrity of SM feel like i should post this.
Anyways i was just playing on the server with fool here and several people said he was using an aimbot, and after playing in the game against him for a good 20 minutes i thought that they were right. So i asked why he is hacking. Now you guys might think, of course he doesn't hack, and maybe he doesn't, but his response was to say anyone calling him hacker was a dumb noob (i'm 44 and everyone else was also a higher level) and shortly after saying that, he muted my in game chat, as i'm sure he also did to the other people questioning his playing abilities. Now this seems excessive as he could have chose to ignore the chat, he could have laughed it off, could have calmly, maturely and politely asked people to stop talking to him, instead he mutes peoples chat, no reason given. After realizing i was muted i decided to rejoin the game. As soon as i joined i said "LOL why did you ban me from chat?" I was instantly kicked. Again this is overstepping his admin privileges and going against SM's own rules as it states that i need to be given a reason before a ban. So i decided to join 1 more time to try and calmly figure out why fool felt the need to ban me for calling him a hacker. Now again even if it was not hacking, I was not breaking the rules, I was not being abusive or rude. After getting back on the server i asked him why he banned me and i said he is overstepping his bounds as an admin. His response was along the lines of "I dont have anything to say to you, feel free to report this". Now other people on the server felt the same way as me, that this was an overstep of admin privileges, Now this time he threatened that if i didn't stop "Spamming" the chat i would be kicked, he used some colorful language as well. Now I believe spamming would be constantly typing text in chat over and over again, not trying to have a conversation, But this time he seems to realize he needed to follow SM rules and give me some kind of reason. And then bam, 1 hour ban. Now i understand it is my words against his and i'm sure Fool can make up whatever he wants and you guys wont take the word of some player over someone who you know and is on you'r competitive team. But as a gamer, admin abuse can be very annoying, especially in a game like chivalry were as you guys know players get kicked for everything under the sun. You guys have a good server but allowing admins to overstep their responsibilities and break their own rules can lead to a bad server. Again this is a shot in the dark but if you guys are not already aware, Fool seems to take his admin privileges as a means to ban people he doesn't like which is in stark contrast to you'r good admins who i have seen defuse many arguments, ban hackers, and be kind and respectful. Fool is none of those things and if he is sporting the SM tag then I think he should be required live up to the integrity that is displayed by you'r more mature admins. Everything i said here is what happened, i have no reason to lie, whether you guys chose to do anything about is obviously up to you, but I don't think what he did is allowed by you'r own rules so i think it is best to report this. Cheers |

So to paraphrase some of the goings-on.. you joined the SM server and decided to accuse an admin of hacking - I'm curious on how you expected that one to turn out?
It's not like you'd be able to votekick him and I suspect unless you have jedi-like powers of persuasion no one it going to say "you're right, I am hacking" (except maybe tongue in cheek). If you were serious about him hacking then gathering any evidence and either post it to the SM forums, to the devs (contact@tornbanner.com) or to a global admin (such as me) as hacking can get people globally banned, fool however has long since been checked out. Regarding being called a noob: level does not infer some sort of wisdom. It just shows somone has spent a lot of time in game. Publically accusing an admin in their own server chat - I can either assume this was intended trolling or simply very poor error of judgement. Anyway regardless, the admins are players just like you or me. While we as a clan expect levels of pofessionalism, we are all just human and respond to things as such. We're there to play a game, not try and defend against pointless allegations. The response is within the remit of the admins, while they are of course free to 'laugh it off' as you say, likewise it's within their powers to prevent such harassment. Harassment is what it is - just because you make a public accusation does not mean that that person has to reply or defend themself to a guest on the server, nor to they have to just allow implied guilt through lack of response. The logs show there were warnings, you were then muted. The only thing we ask our members is if they do take action against a player, it be justified and there is evidence that can be provided to the rest of the clan be it logs or screenshots. There is no onus to provide this to random members of the public since it contains potentially sensitive information (such as IPs) You mentioned after realising you rejoined the game? So let me understand this... you realised you were muted. This could only be done by an admin, so you thought the best course of action would be to evade that administrative action by intentionally rejoining the game and continuing in the previous actions that got you muted in the first place? :s There are plenty of trolls types looking to get a rise out of players. Accusing someone of hacking, then pestering them throughout the game until they lose their temper is quite a common one. Often this is people looking to get into an argument and keep picking at or more often keep trying to make another party justify their position ad nauseum - usually with the guise of 'trying to have a conversation' There was talk of 'threats' which were repeated warnings to stop, which were ignored. This reminds me of an incident with neojorge/captainisrael - I saw both TKing each other and, since not knowing who started it, decided to temp ban both of them for 7 days. Neojorge accepted this and was later unbanned. Captain israel sought to 'argue his point' even though he had little point to make, I eventually warned him that if he didn't stop the temp ban would be changed to a perma ban. He continued and therefore is banned to this day. The point I'm making here is the admins are under no obligation to justify their bans to the public players - especially to people that they've just banned. If there's suspicion of an admin abusing their powers it can be brought either to me privately or to the clan as a whole. Instead making accusations in a public space and hassling someone serves no possible benefit other than to possibly stir up some sort of drama. Personally if it were me you accused of cheating I'd probably just ignore it. If you continued with such accusations I'd almost certainly mute or kick you too. Your analogy of beer pong is flawed to an extent as it'd be a minor aspect of said houseparty (more like feinting in a server, a lot of people don't like it but generally it wouldn't get you thrown out). A more appropriate one would be inviting strangers to my house to party and one turns up and accuses me of something that would be viewed as serious within the realm of that party.. let's say.. cheating on my wife with another guest. How do I respond - Ignore it? Said obnoxious guest keeps repeating the accusation trying to get me to defend myself in front of the other guests? Now in real life if someone made such an accusation, I'd be pretty annoyed. If I had a real life mute button, I'd probably use it Failing that I would probably throw them out on their ass. This is more like your situation. You joined a busy server and publically accused an admin of that server of committing an act that would be considered very serious within the realms of the game, with the consquences of it were true would see him being banned. You continued to pester said admin, evaded a muting in order to continue pestering that admin to justify his actions, then after other warnings seem surprised when he actually throws you out. You then rejoin and continue the very same actions that got you muted and then kicked?? You then make a post regarding admin abuse, which again if found guilty of would see him banned from the servers. Based on what I've seen from the server logs etc., IMO Yet Another Fool has no case to answer. I will however leave it in his hands whether or not to add you to the permanent ban list for the SM servers. (@fool: send me a PM if you want him added) Closing thread. -------------------- |
