Well this topic has been coming to a head for a while both publically and in the SM members area.
It's straight forward when someone badly griefs other players. Obvious evidence and nice definitive actions such as bans.
What's more difficult are those people that tread a fine line between acceptable and prohibited behaviour. Such people tend to play fine for 99% of the time, but then for whatever reason screw someone over for a perceived slight, relying on their previous good form (and probably very low TD to avoid votes). Additionally these events tend to be one off e.g. gets annoyed by another player, TKs them, does nothing further for the remainder of the game. It essentially means when we receive such a report it's too late to gather evidence and nothing further happens. Matters get compounded when some of these players start holding grudges against other players of a similar type and we end up where we are now.
I've received such complaints regarding wisdom, guytoune, leading etc., however as normal we require evidence of wrongdoing. Some of these complaints come from random players too, those without a history with the players mentioned or not prone to shitposting over numerous players.
I've been trying whenever I've had free moments to monitor the server (specifically these players). I've also asked Meowric to do likewise. We've been at this for around 2 months now :s
The problem with evidence posted above is it's subjective and circumstantial: You've provided 2 videos. The first being a TK with no enemy around. The second being Wisdom in an unreachable place attacking people as they spawn(although this is enough to justify a ban).
The issue here though is if we ask wisdom about the first video the likely explanation will be "just got teamswitched, hadn't realised, only happened one time when I realised the mistake etc"
The simple fact is if you have a personal grudge against someone you could record them and almost certainly get such "incriminating evidence" - I've done it myself: been teamswitched, killed a teammate. If someone had recorded that, would it be enough to get a permanent ban? Based on what you're asking, apparently yes.
The rest of the posts you quote are from this site, however am not sure what evidence is offered. Most of the negativity comes from replies made by yourselves or kane. it would be a little naïve to treat those as unbiased opinions.
I do record some matches as if I was playing, however the majority are rendered like an overhead map showing players positions, movements and damage. It's a pain to review these to get an idea of what's going on and wastes a fair bit of my time. That being said I've reviewed several matches now where players such as leading and wisdom have intentionally killed people.
However I've also seen occasions where guytoune has taken shots that could be accidental and immediately reacted as if a personal attack. But moreoften from a specific selection of players who a grudge is held for.
Again regarding evidence there's more posts and logs and videos in the SM only section and this topic has been widely discussed amongst the clan, so members can continue it there.
So what to do now?
After looking at the comments in the SM area, evidence posted in this thread, the SM members thread, details that I've logged myself from live matches, recordings, logs and the same from meowric. I'm going to do the following:
Guytoune: 30 day ban
Leading: 30 day ban
Wisdom: 30 day ban*
Drunk Cat: 24 hour (for the hypocrite comment in the opening post)
* while wisdom and rotor share an IP, the ban is Steam GUID based. It will not effect Rotor.
I'm not going to waste any more time getting into a lengthy forum post war justifying and arguing over every single point, as seems to often be the way.
I'll state this now: The ban is 30 days. It will not be lifted sooner under any circumstances. Posting appeals, arguments, apologies, complaints, abuse etc., here or on the steam forums will serve only to have that the bans lengthened.
I'm also going to pop you all off my steam list. To limit the opportunity for regrettable conversations.
Creating alts, both family share or even new accounts will get the bans set to permanent. (I can confirm this from guytoune(96.Orange/Lyon IP)/leading (selfnet/cz/212 IP) from IPs. Wisdom from the hardware SID.)
Once the bans are completed, I hope all of the above will return and play. Preferably without the various petty behaviour of late.
If however people fall into their old habits, I'll keep re-adding bans until people either leave for good or learn to tolerate each other like adults.
If you are outraged and wish to boycott the server, great! I have no interest in pandering to people who attempt to sway others opinions by that kind of method! If any of the above want to leave and never return, that's fine. Do so without making a scene
@SM: I'll add the bans when I see each person above on the server, if they don't appear for a bit I'll add the bans in manually in the configs around Sunday-ish.
Thanks for the discussions regarding this topic. Please continue in the members area if you feel the need. If any SM want to overturn the bans I've made above, clan rules say it must be off the back of a majority clan vote (do so in the members area if you wish) I will of course respect the decision. No appeals from players involved or members of the public. If any SM members feels the need to leave SM over this whole debacle, drop me a PM and I'll take care of it.
Otherwise I consider this matter now closed.
