Hi,

I recently bought this DVD drive (http://tinyurl.com/53na3t) however from eBay rather than this shop.

It ssuddenly started not recognising CD's anymore. Ive used it before to rip cd's but it not does not recognise blank or burnt cd's.

But strangely it can still read DVD's and game discs.

Any ideas of what might be wrong or would you send it back for a new drive?

could try a firmware update

if that fails, message the seller asking if he had those issues

First thing we need to know: does it recognise any CD's at the moment?

A lot of CD/DVD players have dual diodes, meaning that hardware damage on the cd reading diode part will render cd reading knackered but dvd's still ok.

I've had this happen once before, its possible to replace the lazer assembly but these days with cheap new dvd/cd writers, its better to buy them new (at least you generally get a 1 year guarantee)

If it can read some sort of CD then you'd be worth checking out other drivers/firmware upgrades
