Kicked by Punkbuster, Punkbuster Error (Service Communication Failure : PnkBstrB.exe) Options

Our latest problem is players being kicked for stuff like this:

"RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure : PnkBstrB.exe".

Bascially punkbuster has been updated to run under a windows service pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrb.exe.


If you kill either of these processes off (e.g. in task manager), you will be kicked from servers running the latest PB updates - usually with an "initialization failure" message.

If either of these processes are blocked by firewallsoftware norton/zone alarm etc., you will get a comms failure as above and be kicked.

The 3rd option is the PB updates have failed for some reason, so you'd faile a PB integrity check.

SOLUTIONS:

1. press 'ctrl-alt-delete' and check the processes tab (XP) for these processes

If not there:

Start>Run> typer 'msconfig'

check in startup tab if you have disabled (enable if they are there):

PnkBstrA.exe
PnkBstrB.exe


2. adjust any firewalls to allow access to pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrb.exe

3. download the punkbuster updates manually at http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe
