CAL are producding a league for left 4 dead, I'm thinking this might be fun as l4d is a lot easier to organise (requiring only 4 players for a match and there's very little cheating at the moment)

CAL matches will probably be US based, so we might get dicey pings though

The league hasn't opened for business yet, they're still deciding rules etc.,

Some rules (discussion in progress) are:

First, progress has been slow getting this off the ground with the holidays coming right after the first admins got hired. It is our aim to get things moving swiftly towards a stable first season in the very near future. For some idea of a timetable, we are basically just waiting on some minor logistics and we will be open for team signups. After a short period for signups, there will be a brief - 1 or 2 week preseason, mainly to get everyone familiar with CAL's system since there isn't going to be anything new or complicated in regards to the game. Then, the normal 8 weeks of regular season followed by a playoff format TBD.

On rules, we have drawn up a complete rule set but I'll only give out the highlights, you will be able to read it in its entirety once its posted on the division site.

3.70a Closets
Closets are LEGAL so long as they are not physically impossible for tanks or infected players to reach. Some examples of ILLEGAL areas include the vents behind the 28th floor elevator on No Mercy 4, and hiding under the ramp during No Mercy 5.

3.70b Blocking the path of the Survivors
It is not legal to block the main paths with bashable objects (cars, logs, forklifts, ladders, etc.) as infected. In general, anything that physically prevents survivors from finishing the round is considered illegal. Also, waiting with the tank above the sewer exit just outside the safe room at the end of No Mercy 3 and hitting a car as survivors come up is illegal. To clarify, if they come up and within a few seconds get hit by a car when there is no reasonable possibility for avoiding it, it is illegal. However, if all the survivors climb up and move around, then it is legal to use cars or garbage cans. CAL reserves the final say on this and all rules governing illegal behavior.

3.70c Quick Bashing
Using the weapon switch key (default Q) to change weapons while spamming the bash key is not legal. This results in faster than intended bashing. Spamming bash without switching weapons, however, is legal.

3.70d Map Exploits
The use of any of the following exploits in an official CAL match will result in the forfeiture of that round as well as one additional round by the offending team. In all cases, the league will make final determination on whether something is an exploit. Skipping any crescendo event where the survivors activate something and a horde is called is not legal. One example is bashing down the door on No Mercy 3 instead of activating the lift.

Only other interesting thing of note is we'll be playing three maps a match instead of a full campaign, both for time purposes and for a little variety. You could see NM1,3,5 - BH2,4,5 - NM 2,4,5 - BH1,3,5 as weeks 1 through 4 as an example.

Anyway, expect things to get underway here soon. Keep spreading the word!
