Just wondering if anyone would be interested in turning the baron 1P 50 slot into a 24 or 32 slot server limited archer server, 3rd person allowed. Basically a smaller less insane version of the current 50 slot limited archer server.
Personally I think this would be great as there would be less team damage, greater server stability and less lag / lower pings all round. -------------------- |

I think one of the things that make SM servers great is the 50 player limit.

Yup. There's enough 32/24 player servers already.

Instead, Monkey works his ass off to clear the lag, then we make a 64 (or more!)p server

For a second I thought "hey, it's an excellent idea!", but then again the thing that drew me to the SM servers was the 50 players capacity

OR, we should have a 50p FFA in Dininghall, and other mini-maps, now THAT would ve awesome!
Imagine the lag, in that tiny little room, I wonder if you could even fit 50 players in there... |

It's a tricky one to vote for as the majority of players who've joined have done so because of the 50 slot servers, so suspect they're likely to be heavily biased in favour of larger servers anyway.
The limits that we have are around 50 slot - we used to have 64 slots, but the server was unstable and very laggy. This isn't even a matter of fixing code or throwing server resources at it as it generally was bound by dodgy game netcode which we couldn't really improve upon. Well, there are a few ways such as faster core clock cycles so even beasts like 5960x's are wasted (unless running multiple servers) the only really viable option would be to pick up something like a devils canyon running 4ghz and OC it to around 4.4 (we'd also need to buy new cooling). At the moment I'm holding off on making any major hardware purchases and Christmas and new year have already cost me several grand - I bought a piano. Not cheap Btw we do often see the 50 carnage server filling, but for some unknown reason it seems a bit more prone to crashing then not filling up again. It's still consistently ranked in the world top 10 so it's not that barren. 24 and 32 slot servers certainly have considerably less lag. The problem with 24 & 32 slot servers is population. Generally most chiv servers are 24 and 32, so there is little to set a new SM 32 slot server away from the crowd. So my gut feeling is we could set a server to 24 or 32 slots but find that it's empty or never gets started half the time. BUT... That being said if it's something people want to try I can create a new 24 or 32 server, put whatever maps/modes the majority want on then trial it for 1-3 months. If it becomes popular I'll foot the bill and keep it. If it becomes unpopular then drop it. If a couple of clan members want such a thing, say so here. If yay, You can then argue amongst yourselves as to the gamemodes/mods/maps by vote plz -------------------- |

As far as I know there is no UK Giant Slayers server - yeah it does get boring quickly but I personally would jump in every now and then.
And there's also the Lightsaber mod - I haven't got a chance to play this one yet. Anyway regardless of possible maps/mods it's something I would definitely look forward to : ) -------------------- |

That's true , A server with mod should be better than a boring normal server which is like 100 others in the game..:/

For me it's the community that makes SM the best, tbh. Otherwise I would play on less populated servers just for slightly less lag.
I for one wouldn't mind if the secondary server had something like 40 players instead of 50, maybe some people would prefer slightly less crowd from time to time. Also maybe you could have it run TO and LTS to spice things up or something? It's often pretty barren compared to the other server. |
