Ok, so i'll admit, Im getting frustrated at people using admin codes to add resources for their own projects. It takes a lot of the gloss away from completing a project using only resources you have gathered yourself, when you look over and see a colossal structure where someone has put no effort into gathering materials at all. Im proud of the things I build, and Im proud of the fact I gather all the resources I need myself, however nothing I make will ever be as big and imposing as the structures some people are putting up with the aid of codes.

I appreciate that people may feel differently, which is why I have made the poll. So heres what im suggesting as the poll options:

1. Admin codes are allowed in all cases, to add any resource, for any purpose
2. Admin codes are not allowed in any case whatsoever
3. Admin codes can be used, but only to benefit community projects (Aki's roads, Chisels rail network, the Redstone Institute etc.)
4. Any use of admin codes required approval by vote on the forum first (tell people what you plan to build, what resources you might need etc.)
5. Admin codes can not be used, except for certain items - state which items in your reply.
6. Any other suggestions

I have made this multiple choice, but if you do choose more than one please explain why.

Just to kick things off, I have voted for 3 and 5. I would prefer codes to be used only for community projects, but I also realise that the addition of new blocks to the game has made some of them difficult to find without travelling miles, so Im not against generating those per se. So i vote for community projects and new block types only.

I agree, although I will continue to build my railway using what I mine wherever possible, my only problem is building enough minecarts without admin codes as they take 5 iron per and I need 2 every 20 blocks for power and however many I want to run on the lines.

Thats what I was getting at with community projects Chis.

Also, just to clarify, I think if people want to create gargantuan structures with no mining effort, they should keep it to their own private games. I'd rather have a utopia where everyone has worked for what they build

Personally, I simply do not enjoy mining for resources, especially some of the rarer ones (and I'm talking about things like Brick and Glowstone more than Diamond or Lapis). Whilst I do use a fair amount of 'legit' resources in my constructions that I do get simply from exploring caves and the like, I would get far less enjoyment out of the game, and would be far less inclined to have things 'just right' if I had no access to /give.

Now, I do think that it would be fair to restrict the usage of spawned resources in places like Straylight, and make it a part of any requests to build in sight of other people's structures. But to restrict people who's builds are well away from the rest is somewhat ridiculous to me. And when it comes to only for community projects, since they would be multi-person community things with more people to mine resources as well as construct I'm not sure why they should be exempted, surely its all or nothing? And if we did, what counts as a community project? Any project that benefits more than one player? Can people declare things community projects unilaterally or does it have to be approved first? How many of the people who play need to approve it? Can there be no spontaneous projects? Perhaps we should add approval for all projects? Or even have all future projects communally planned?

Surely the point of the property rights is to prevent this sort of disapproval by providing a buffer between existing and contentious structures anyway? Allowing spontaneous construction - spawned or not - and allowing people to be creative if they want, mine if they want, and generally play the game the way they want to. I'm also not against marking 'spawned' structures somehow to separate them from the 'genuine article' as it were mind you.

Not to mention that most of the biggest sites *aren't* done with spawned resources at all.

I don't like to be so absolute, but I probably would barely play on the server nearly as much if this was disallowed entirely, and I'm not just saying this to be contrary. If I wanted to grind for resources to do things I'd still play WoW or LotRO. So I have voted 1.

Works fine, my main problem is sheep on the line at the moment, they block the carts and cause a pileup XD Will likely run fences along the edge of the lines shortly after opening otherwise having the system automated is pointless.

The issue isnt the size of things, or the ugliness of them, like you said we have the property rights in place for that anyway, i dont particularly care how ugly or big something is, thats not the issue. And I would also say something being a community project or not should be fairly obvious. The roads are, quite clearly, as is the rail system, and the redstone institute is purely there for redstone demo purposes. Also, just because something is a community project doesnt mean there is more than one working on them so theres no guarantee of extra resources. The roads, and I think redstone have been completely done by Aki (with some small exceptions) and only Chisel and a little of aki have been working on the railroads.

As for only allowing certain items, its things like glowstone and lapis im talking about, because lets face it there is no shortage of dirt, stone, even sand in the world.

At the end of the day, I dont have anything more than personal reasons to object to it. Im not going to try and argue its against the games intentions, or that it detracts from the game, or that it makes things too easy, because I know its a game and its meant to be fun, and its a sandbox game at that. I know theres valid points on both sides, I can only tell you my personal reasons for wanting a reduction in the amount of /give. Hence the poll. Ill still play either way.
