The 5k points bonuses are due to reaching stat landmarks for example the bronze, silver and told stars are related to the amount of kills with each weapons, you get other badges for things like 100 squad resupplies or revives etc. It's just a matter of playing enough until you reach these sort of stats and then a flurry of bonus points should help you rank. If you go medic you can get more points for squad revs than for a kill, another way to earn more points if you are finding a round particularly hard. actually the bonus points from landmarks don't help you rank, i'm a bit of a stat whore and i always pay close attention to how my points increase, if you look closely after a round when the scoreboard breakdown is up, it's split into class scores and award scores for example after panama canal i may get about 800 points playing as medic, a further 200 points for vehicle (sat as gunner till it blew up ) and maybe 50 points as assault (ran out of nades and died lol) also i would have gained a further 200 award for 5+ revives as medic and ano 200 for being in best squad in total i would have gained say 1450 points towards my rank score while only 800 goes to leveling up my medic class, 200 for vehicle unlocks and 50 for assault class i'm not sure as to what the 400 from awards gets assigned to if anything maybe someone else can clarify -------------------- WIP...

When I get big bonuses from awards I can see it added to my ranked stats at the end of my round, for example I've had a couple of rounds where I got in excess of 20k points, the rank bar then increases to the so much that the one round's points let me rank up in one go.

dunno about the main game, but awards were defo be applied to ranking up in the beta
my final two ranks (10 and 11) I got over about 4 or 5 rounds, as I was getting like 8-14k per round from massive awards/etc |

yeh total score gets added to my ranks, its quite fun watching the greenbar zoooooooom up when youve racked in the points. Though its also quite depressing when you only see it move half a centremeter =[

well it usually takes me 3 rockets to take down a tank, so after the first tank i'm out of rockets .............the only way to get more is to either suicide or get killed
at least with recon and 2 c4 i can take out 3 -------------------- WIP...

hehe, thats what I have. Back in the bf2 days if we were only trying to get the server kicked off we would idle on it to get people to join, that would be what I do if someone joins who is going to play like that.

Hmm, I dunno about survivability (I have a battlefield lifespan that mayflies look down on), but for points, I'm finding the engineer route can be good at times. If you get a half-decent driver who stays put while you're repairing his tank and someone else on the MG to cover you, you can potentially keep repairing the tank when its knackered for a nice big points bonus (something like 20 points every 2-3 seconds of repair). The pin badges for 7 'repairs' (actually 7 chuncks of 20 points) go a long way towards unlocks, and you can even join in with twatting other tanks with whatever launcher you have. Bear in mind that chucking a tracer on something also nets you 30 points a pop, and that even works on infantry (and looks amusing too).
Mines are persistant, so if you're not keep on throwing rockets about and generally blowing yourself up, lob a few tankbusters down in hard to see places, and let those do the talking. Be aware that you can also shoot them to make them explode, which can net you one or two infantry kills if they're blissfully unaware of the surprise they're camping on. As for guns... well... yeah. YMMV with whatever you choose. I've had reasonable success with the saiga when playing in buildings, but for open air combat, you might as well be lobbing peas at them. Its a 6 round shotgun that usually requires 2-4 shells to twat someone, so you'd better be quick on the knife button if theres more than one target about. Dont even think about trying to shoot down helicopters with the 3rd launcher unlock unless you've developed superhuman powers of precognition. Well, I didnt intend on writing an engineer playguide really, but there we go. Consider it 'Cables guide to getting shot less frequently, and maybe ranking at the same time'. -------------------- |

I agree with cable from playing BC2 closed beta on PS3 i always found engineer to be the best way to rake points in. Team up with a tank driver and you can get squillions of points

...Medic + Full squad that sticks together = Moar Points
it's supa easy to run around sticking down medpacks and diving out from cover to do defibs and let the points roll in, a bit like a amusement attraction, bing bing Bing Bing BING! also if there is a assault in your squad then you pretty much get loads of nades to spam also later on when you get the horribly OP M60 then you can give serious gunner support another tip is learn how to switch kits midgame, if your not playing medic and the squad one goes down then grab his kit and revive him! also on a side note if someone has revived you and your now a diff class then it's a good idea to have played a little with the 3 useful classes ie med/eng/ass, not that i'm poopooing the recon class but i find a 12x scoped m24 useless when someone is less than 12ft away from u -------------------- WIP...
