I will be jumping on the Diablo 3 bandwagon when it comes.

Diablo 1 & 2 , were pretty epic in their day.

i am also pretty sure one or both are now abandonware and freely available to have a shot at if your bored.

also , torchlight is kind of the spiritual successor/side project to the diablo series and is relatively cheap on steam if you are bored and have some money to spare.

Tis a shame clan activity kinda died off courtesy of various MMO's , though i have really started enjoying tf2 and l4d again recently.

I am often about for L4d sessions if i am not pew pewing internet spaceshipz

i really cant go more than 10 mins in BC2 anymore without emo rage quitting , but can come on and give y'all free kills for 10 mins i guess tongue.gif

nice thread K

atm i am playing :

Eve online - taking up 99% of my time at the moment due to several active wardec's (serious business these internet spaceships)
BFBC2 - bit of a love hate relationship with this game , normally RQ after 15 mins smile.gif but play for the company rather than the game
COH - as with K , play with clannies relatively often.
Dirt 2/Grid - again, as above pretty decent in multiplayer with clan mates.

other random stuff i play from time to time :

Supreme Commander /Total Annihilation/ Forged alliance - Big Stompy robot RTS games of the oldschool base building resource management variety , good fun but missions take several hours each to complete
TF2/L4D - need no introduction really, don't play these as often as Valve have ruined tf2 pretty much, and nobody seems to play l4d 1 or 2 anymore

Not really looking forward to many games this year tbh , diablo 3 will be good ( check out torchlight if you like diablo btw K )

indeed

a friend had the same thing happen a week back , rang up claiming that they could see his PC was behind a firewall but was infected with malware despite this , and if he could just turn it on they would be able to show him , hung up at that point as he had twigged it was either a scam/hack or a sales call.

lol

The company is no doubt sending out hugely expensive "tech support" out to old and vulnerable/gullible people to "fix" their massive "virus" infections , lol

Technically speaking they can't give you a bad reference (just refuse to give you a reference).. also I notice from working for a large multinational evil corporation, that we don't give references either - just a note from HR saying so and so worked here from this date to this date in this position. Actual butt kissing personal references are basically given by managers without HR's involvment.

largely thanks to the likes of compensation lawyers !

Companies can be held liable for the references they give , so if you have a glowing reference for an employee who then turns out to be terrible at their next job , the company runs the risk of being sued , likewise if they give a bad reference , they are likely to be receiving a call from compensation lawyers 4 free or the like wanting to sue for the bad reference on behalf of the ex employee , hence most companies will confirm only your job title and dates you were employed.

Making Hypo's idea even more attractive smile.gif

Hell i even used to work for a big (evil) corporation that used to have a contract with a private investigation firm to run checks on all new employees as well as drug and alcohol screens.

well i only have to give a weeks notice and have been there since sept. I decided to chat to my manager tomorrow and see what she says. as i think if i were to hand notice they'll ask me to clear my desk. but ill take her advice on whether its ok to hand it in now or leave it til the week before i wish to leave.

it should be fine , and most of the time it is , but sometimes in sales type jobs , once you have handed in your notice they cant get you out he building quick enough ( you are still entitled to be paid for your notice if they ask you not to work it and go home immediately ) which sucks if you need the money till the end of the month and they drop you like a stone next wednesday.

hypo's suggestion was the best thing i have read for a while , lol !

hey

I work as an hr advisor so here are my 2 cents .

IF you want to give advanced notice that is fine , however 2 things to bear in mind , i the uk verbal notice of intention to resign is technically legally binding ( you do not have to put it in writing , simply telling your boss in the pub that you want to leave is enough to be considered a resignation ) This is fine if you trust your boss and want to give them time to find a replacement , no so fine if there is less trust and you are concerned they might accept immediately and ask you to clear your desk that day ! ( i have worked for companies like this ) So be sure before you put a post dated letter on your manager's desk !

The other thing , is your notice period is largely dependant on your contract and length of service, not sure how long you have been there but after a while you earn the right to a longer notice than most contract provide for ( ie the standard week or month ) Likewise if you are in your first few months your notice is likely to be a week at most.

All your letter needs to say is that you are giving formal notice of your resignation ( and date the letter ) resignations are effective as of the date they are received, if you are wanting to put the letter in and have the notice take effect in the future not the day you hand it in ( as you have above ) you can put this in, but they are under no obligation to honour this legally ( morally is a different matter )

It will only be put on your file by someone like me and never seen again so if you have good things to say by all means put them in but it is by no means going to count against you if your don't. ( this is also helpful if you plan on coming back again )

Personally i hate it when employees put in when they are going to leave, as i already know what their notice period is, and being reminded sounds a bit confrontational . But i would say 90% of resignations i get have it in so it is obviously the done thing.

i get pretty decent fps on my rig ( which is similar to yours kermit , apart from the gfx card) :

Phenom 2 x4 955 ( @3.8 ghz )
4 Gig DDR2 1066
EVGA GTX 260 ( the oldskool version with 196 cores not 216 )
1920 x 1080 res , all settings on high ( no AA or AF as stoopid game wont let me set any more than 1x for each )

get around 60 fps average , occasionally dips to high 30s low 40s

@ 6 , BSOD's at windows boot are unlikely to be down to overheating, it is either the cpu or the memory, most probably the memory. ( overheating tends to cause BSOD's during heavy load or extended load such as gaming, usually at the worst possible time )

you can check the temps at boot in the bios ( c2ds are good up to around 85- 90 and the stock cooler is normally pretty capable of cooling the cpu pretty well , just a bit loud )

I have always had AMD cpu's ( as they are much easier to overclock ) but the principles are the same :

i would suggest that you lower your memory divider before increasing the fsb , as increasing the fsb will automatically overclock your ram ( as ram speed is a multiple of the FSB in core 2 setups ) , so underclocking your ram before you increase the fsb gives you a bit of breathing space to oc the cpu without overclokign the ram at the same time.

if you are not playing with voltage clocking your cpu is pretty safe as they will auto shut off if they get too hot, but you would be lucky to get it from 2.4ghz to over 3 ghz without some extra juice

have to say the 4 or so hours ive spent with it so far have been really good.

I guess not having spent any more than an hour or 2 in BF2 i don,t have anything to compare it to, sure its a beta and has a few bugs to iron out , but overall i am quite impressed and quite looking forward to the release now.

to me this doesn't feel like an obvious console port , not as much as R6 Vegas did anyway.

IF anyone needs to use a voice server in the meantime please feel free to use either of mine ( pm me and ill send ya the details )

have Ts3 and Mumble servers ( the Ts3 will only be up for a couple of weeks as it is a free beta test from my server providers for my UT3 server so it would be nice if someone used it , the mumble server is tied to the UT3 server and will be up for a few more months )

Right ,

{TIS} have confirmed they are up for a game if we could get a date and time and they will arrange some players , and UKMD want a rematch after the last game

if those interested could post availability , i will sort the next one out with {TIS} and then possibly a rematch with UKMD TR , UKMD may also have another team or two to put forward smile.gif

Epic game tonight , incredibly close game with some awesome play from both teams

final score was SM - 1280 UKMD TR - 1271 with UKMD leading at the start of the finale finale by 22 points

epic play award goes to Foxx for some seriously impressive long range spitting on the early levels smile.gif

that lot are already up for a rematch so if you fancy it let me know and we can set another up this week/weekend ?

i would imagine the map would be decided in lobby on one everyone is happy to play ( as a lot have mixed feelings about Swamp Fever and Hard Rain ) , i can arrange a map in advance if need be ( probably the first one i forget the name ) but am having the day from hell at work today so it may be a bit last minute dot com.

Contender dood if you are welcome to take my slot if you want it smile.gif
